The Teeswide Safeguarding Adults Board hosted a learning workshop on the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) as part of a Safeguarding Adult Review (SAR) for a local case known as SF. The session brought together professionals from health, social care, Police, and the voluntary sector to explore complex MCA issues and share lessons from local and national SARs.
Led by Neil Allen, Senior Lecturer and Barrister, the workshop explored practical strategies for applying the Mental Capacity Act in complex situations, covering decision-making in high-risk cases, balancing autonomy with protection, and improving outcomes for adults who may lack capacity.
To support ongoing learning, a set of resources have been developed to capture the key themes, case studies, and best practice guidance from the workshop. These materials are designed for anyone working with adults at risk. Supporting confident, lawful decision-making is essential for safeguarding adults at risk.
