Safeguarding in Practice: Prevention, Early Intervention and Lessons Learned

This comprehensive session covers key aspects of adult safeguarding, beginning with prevention and the creation of safe systems and cultures. Participants will explore how to build trust, recognise vulnerabilities, promote empowerment, and foster multi-agency collaboration and effective leadership.

Early identification and intervention are emphasised, including recognising warning signs, applying professional curiosity, using screening tools, and engaging individuals and families with support services.

The session also addresses how to respond confidently to abuse, including handling disclosures, balancing confidentiality, following procedures, and working in partnership with key agencies.

Lessons learned from Safeguarding Adult Reviews (SARs) will be shared, highlighting missed opportunities, poor information sharing, and disguised compliance, with a focus on embedding learning through reflective practice and supervision.
Participants will learn how to align safeguarding policies with daily practice, maintain continuous improvement through training and feedback, and promote a culture of openness and learning.

The session concludes with a recap of key messages, open discussion, and signposting to further learning resources.
