Yo is a trainer and consultant who works across the public sector (primarily in social care and education) with specialisms in autism and law. She is experienced in working closely with professionals in local authorities, care providers and in schools. She creates and delivers high level training on the legal framework of adult social care, safeguarding and autism for many English local authorities and other clients, including sector organisations such as OPG and ADASS. Yo provides training on all aspects of the Care Act; Adult Safeguarding law and practice; Mental Capacity law; DOLS; SEND law; and specialist autism courses for social care and education professionals. She has a thorough and up to date working knowledge of public law and professional practice issues in both adult and children’s services and a multi-faceted perspective on a range of issues affecting all client groups, but particularly autistics both with and without intellectual disabilities.
The webinar will be delivered via Microsoft Teams. Please ensure that you have full audio and visual access to Teams before applying for a place.
Aim: The course aims to equip managers of services to be confident in their role of preventing and responding to abuse and neglect, applying the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) legislation and managing safe services.

Managers of services including:
- Registered Managers and their Deputies
- Day Service Managers
- Clinical Matrons
- Safeguarding Leads in Health and Social Care Services
- CAVA Unit Officers (Cleveland Police)
- Safeguarding Leads in Cleveland Fire Brigade
Staff will be expected to have completed Level 1 safeguarding training prior to attending this course. This can be achieved by completing the Safeguarding Adults Awareness Workbook on the TSAB website: Safeguarding Adults Awareness Workbook (Version 4)
The day will be broken down into a series of sessions covering the following topics:
- Session 1: Introduction and Overview of the Safeguarding Enquiry Process in Tees including timescales.
- Session 2: Recognising and Responding to Safeguarding Concerns
- Session 3: Working with adults at risk – Human Rights, Capacity Assessment, Best Interests, Supporting Decision Making and Making Safeguarding Personal (MSP)
- Session 4: Information Sharing
There will also be opportunities for group work and discussion.
Following the webinar session delegates will be provided with a workbook to enable them to continue with further self-directed learning on the topics covered.
Requesting a Place

Please note that submitting a form does not guarantee a place, however we suggest that you provisionally book the date in your diary. These training sessions are usually oversubscribed and therefore allocation of places will be determined on a number of factors. Please ensure that you provide as much detail as possible on the ‘why you want to attend’ section of the form. We will aim to send confirmation of your place by Friday 8th January 2021. If you are unsuccessful you will be informed and your name may be added to a waiting list for this specific date.
This course is free to attend, however if your place is confirmed and you are unable to attend you must inform the Business Unit by email no later than 11.30pm on Monday 25th January 2021. Cancellation after this date or failure to attend will result in a £50 charge.
